MACA Museum is a contemporary art museum displaying many of the greatest artists of the 20th and 21st centuries - including Warhol, Basquiat, Banksy, RETNA, KAWS, Haring, Koons, Hirst, Emin, and Kusama. MACA Museum presents thought-provoking exhibitions of modern art in an elegant 19th century historic building located in the heart of Copenhagen.

Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art
Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is a must see in Copenhagen for anyone interested in art and architecture.
Den Frie was founded by artists in 1898 and is one of the oldest venues for contemporary art in Denmark. It is in itself a unique and very beautiful wooden building designed by famous artist J.F. Willumsen.
Den Frie’s fundamental aim is to present the very latest in contemporary art. We host exhibitions by national and international artists, all of which address current issues. The extensive programme of exhibitions and events are evidence of Den Frie’s role as an active platform for living art and art production, and the commitment to contribute to contemporary existence.
With its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, Den Frie is also a popular meeting place for artists, students, tourists and the many locals who pass by. As a visitor you’ll feel welcome and enjoy having your interest in contemporary art stimulated, whether you’re an art connoisseur or a beginner. On top of which the architecture alone is well worth a visit.
Den Frie also houses the café, Polykrom, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch or a well-made cup of coffee.

Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling 2026 - 08.11.2026 - 29.11.2026
Since 1900, Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling (KE) has provided an open platform where emerging and established artists can exhibit their work side by side. The exhibition follows a democratic tradition in which anyone can apply, and artworks are selected anonymously by a jury. This 126th edition presents 96 works by 75 artists, selected by four contemporary artists. Through a wide range of artistic expressions, the works explore the thoughts, emotions and issues shaping our world today. Humour and seriousness, personal stories and shared experiences come together in a diverse exhibition. Visitors can also enjoy guided tours with the jury members and a panel discussion on artists and mental health.
OSLO – Arash Nassiri: A Bug’s Life - 13.11.2026 - 31.01.2027
In his solo exhibition, Arash Nassiri explores the connections between migration, culture and architecture across countries and histories. The exhibition presents a new work created specifically for Den Frie alongside the film A Bug’s Life. Set inside an extravagant Beverly Hills mansion built by Iranian emigrants in the 1980s, the film follows a small, hand-carved wooden insect. As it wanders through the mansion's ornate rooms and golden interiors, the building's unique history gradually comes to life. Through this playful and unusual animation, Nassiri explores the traces of cultural exchange and displacement. The exhibition offers a different perspective on how architecture can reflect identity, change and a sense of belonging.
Decembristerne 2026: Scener - 05.12.2026 - 10.01.2027
The Danish artists' association Decembristerne invites visitors into an exhibition where the stage becomes the setting for new artistic encounters. Together with 15 invited guest artists, the association's members explore how art can be staged and experienced in different ways. Across six exhibition rooms, stages of varying shapes and sizes provide spaces for artists to create and present their works. Visual art, sculpture, sound and performance come together in unexpected combinations that challenge traditional exhibition formats. The stages also come to life through performances, readings, workshops and concerts. The exhibition invites visitors to experience art as something to observe, explore and share with others.
OSLO – Erik Hällman - 12.02.2027 - 16.05.2027
Swedish artist Erik Hällman creates sculptural arrangements from discarded objects and materials. His works bring together everything from organic and handmade materials to mass-produced everyday objects and luxury goods. Through unexpected combinations, he explores the relationship between the familiar and the strange, the valuable and the overlooked. Objects take on new meanings as they come together in complex sculptural compositions. The exhibition is part of Den Frie's OSLO series, featuring solo exhibitions created specifically for the art centre. Visitors can discover Hällman's experimental approach to materials and sculpture in Den Frie's lower-level exhibition space, where admission is free.

In HOLE, three women retreat to a remote summer house after the end of their relationships, moving between grief, fear and transformation. Surrounded by forests, marshes and open landscapes, the boundaries between their inner lives and the world around them slowly begin to dissolve. Shot on black-and-white 16mm film, the work uses grainy images to blur the lines between skin, landscape and shadow. In Platform, the film is presented as an immersive installation with tactile velvet-covered walls that extend the atmosphere of the film into the room. The exhibition explores loss, the male gaze, mutual care and the collective strength that can emerge between women in crisis.
